STUDENTS
Why is every token recipient not a member of Matulich Foundation Inc.?
Florida sweepstakes laws may view membership in the Foundation as given in exchange for a token, which is illegal because tokens must be given free to people who qualify for the sweepstakes and ask for them, with nothing in exchange. We cannot force membership on anyone. Some token recipients may object to some policies of the Foundation, such as giving scholarships to students regardless of GPA or economic class, or they may be prevented from joining an organization as members by their religion, social status, legal prohibitions, or other reasons.
What happens to my sweepstakes tokens if I change schools and get a new email address?
Your email address is your username for access to your account and tokens. The Foundation does not have an online mechanism to preserve a student’s sweepstakes token holdings if you change your email address. To preserve your tokens, you must call or email the Foundation sweepstakes coordinator and arrange to cancel your old account, register for a new account with your new username, and have your tokens transferred. You must do this before your email account is canceled by the school you are leaving.
Why are 2024 graduates excluded from the sweepstakes?
The sweepstakes awards scholarships, and scholarships are intended for students. With scholarships awarded in December 2024 graduates are no longer students, so they are not eligible for scholarships. We encourage graduates to join the Foundation as sustaining members.
If I have some sweepstakes tokens in my account and I cancel my membership, do I get to keep my tokens?
Technically yes. They will remain in our tokens database. But if your token wins, there will be no record of ownership, because your account will no longer exist on our site. The system will discard it and give the prize to the next randomly drawn number.
FOUNDATION
What is the 5% scholarship requirement mentioned on your site?
Federal Internal Revenue Service rules impose restrictions on organizations that are tax-exempt. Such restrictions ensure that charities use their resources to satisfy their mission and not become tax-avoidance schemes. Matulich Foundation Inc. is required to satisfy its mission of distributing scholarships, by making the amount to be distributed equal to 5 percent of its endowment. The Foundation’s federal income tax return reports on how well we satisfied that requirement each year. If we pay too little in one year, the deficit must be made up in a future year. If we pay more than 5 percent, the excess can be carried over to reduce payments in a future year. The laws ensure that charities will not dissipate their endowment by distributing too much money, nor hoard their resources by distributing too little.
Can I apply for a Matulich Foundation scholarship without participating in the sweepstakes?
Not this year. All scholarship funds available for 2024 are allocated to the sweepstakes. In the future we may go back to individual scholarship applications that are evaluated by a committee to select recipients.
SWEEPSTAKES
Can I buy more than $5 of sweepstakes tokens?
You cannot buy sweepstakes tokens. They are not for sale. Students can donate money to the Foundation by selecting one of three donation options and each option provides more tokens. You can select a donation option more than once. The Foundation appreciates your donation, but keep in mind that sweepstakes tokens are essentially worthless because your chance of winning is 1 divided by all the tokens issued. As you buy more tokens, the chance of winning gets smaller, and you can win only one prize in this sweepstakes.
SUSSTAINING MEMBERS
Who are Sustaining Members of Matulich Foundation?
Anyone can join the Foundation as a sustaining member. They are people who know the Foundation and its goals and are interested in having it succeed and grow into a public charity. They are not asked for contributions, although many pay the voluntary $5 annual membership fee and make donations. Basically, they want to sustain the Foundation and help it in various ways, even if only to tell their neighbor about it. Click

Can sustaining members participate in the sweepstakes?
Only students enrolled in a Florida school can participate in the scholarship sweepstakes. You can only have one account in the Foundation web site. Sustaining members who are students must cancel their sustaining membership and apply for a scholarship as a student. In the future, the Foundation may hold sweepstakes for the public in which any adult can participate.
